  • A simple market survey (best price)
    1) Diverite TransPlate with QB weight system set: $850 "the dive company” (local)

    2) Hollis elite2+S25 wing set : $900 online divegearexpress.com

    3) Hollis Ride HTS2 : $500 online leisure pro.com (promotion)

    4) Halcyon infinity: $1230 "scuba warehouse"(local)

Above BC set can switch btw single tank and twin tank. Hollis Ride travel & Dive Rite Transpac are for single tank only. Delivery cost will occur if buying online, but has more choice of setup own BC.

Hope will help some one who like to buy BP/W BC.

scubatoys are currently clearing out all their remaining oxycheq stocks so wings are now sold at US$250

they also have a bp/w package at the closeouts section for US$375 (mix and match components though only the wing is oxycheq)

  • Dive Rite travel wing is an old model, Travel XT is upgraded wing. Hollis has better quality than Dive Rite, i have checked 3 US online shops, they are all out of stock for S25 wing & Elite 2. I think solo harness might be good enough, and do i need STA
    ?

In what way do you think Hollis has better quality than DR? I have both and i find both as good.

  • If you don't mind i am using an engineering review to look at both of them, though  both of them are US brand. The differences are from the details of each parts like D ring, inflator, and if harness is together with rubber wraps. (**base on comparing both BP/W set at "the dive company"). Even "scuba warehouse" says  DR quality is not as good as last time, they bring in more high-end brands now.

  • In a backplate system, quality of the wing very much is just how they are put together and grade of material. Design of wings, new or old design, IMHO, it's not going to make too much difference. I think depends on what 'school' of diving you are into, configuration of dump valve, elbows, hose length maybe more important.

D-rings and fittings, usually are just 316 stainless steal. I can't see significant difference between those brands. I think the main difference is quality of backplate. Material and hot they are treated can mean significant difference in terms of quality and durability. Some backplate corrode really quickly and others are soft. The difference will be obvious when u start carrying doubles.

As for STA, I dive with them, I feel the setup is more 'proper'. But STA do drive up cost and a heavier package to travel with.
So they call it a 'FACT' coz someone made some statements on a 'FACT SHEET'? hummm...
