DR travel EXP wing users
« on: 09 Jan 11, 21:49 »
I have been experiencing air leage from the back of my bp/w. Found out that the end of the inflater hose have a scre cap that can not be tighten. Unscrew it and there is a spring, back )-ring and a white round piece with a shaft in the middle of the disc. The shaft is facing the black screw cap and the cap can not be tighten. I reverse the white cap with the shaft now facing the spring and it can be tighten perfectly now. Tried oral inflating the wing and no leakage. Can any DR travel EXP wing users here verify that the position of the white cap of mine before the black screw cap is in the right position?

Why not u bring the wing back to shop that sells u the item? It's better to have them check out ur problem.  :)

But really, why is there a dump valve on top of a supposedly DIR complainant wing? An unnecessary point of failure that serves no real purpose?

Drop Wakiki a call to check? If I'm not wrong, the inflator might be "tuned" and torque to factory recommendations. As much as it can be tightened now, have you
1. check if the leak could be from cross threading at the spring area?
2. Is the piece that's suppose to seal against the inflator outlet seated properly? (sorry don't know the terminology for that item of interest)

SK: DR offers two types of inflator setups, one with the elbow joint the other with the dump valve version. Maybe cos EXP also caters to non-DIR divers?

Yes bro. I know the part u r referring to. It's a dump valve. I suggest u do not reverse direction the silicon diaphragm urself. It's suppose to be a one way only valve loaded by a spring. Reversing it (if not correctly done) can be dangerous. Seek professional advice pls. If possible, change to elbow type connection.. Dump the dump valve! ;)

i've got one of this too but never opened it before. sorry can't help much but i'd agree that going back to shop might be better. don't expect charge since such a minor thing and shop should take the opportunity to show their customer service  ;) if u like, could switch to just a plain elbow type and shorten the corrugated hose length. the standard length i got seem a bit long and dangly [so that's why i moved to Agir wings for my twin setup]

in general, i feel that diverite tends to add what i think are features in their products so as to differentiate from others. some to me are quite good ideas. user has to think for themselves if it's a genuine benefit or just gimmick in general.

unlikely this is so-called "DIR compliant" due to the dump valve as an "extra point of failure". it's got more shortcomings than benefits it offers. although i should say it's better to think of simple gear setup, rather than branding bcds as compliant or non-compliant becaus ethere's a danger of gear focus rather than including the diver itself.

I will visit the shop i bought the BP from to check. How does that dump valve work? pull where to dump at that valve?

Dump by pulling the hose? Sounds crazy huh? Haha.. I think they have a wire inside, when u pull ur hose, the wire will open the valve.

yup,
thats how it works
but normally i see this more often in Jacket BCs
there is a wire connecting the inflator to the dump valve at the other end of the corrugate hose.
since the hose is corrugated, it can be extended, thus the fixed length wire in hose will pull open the dump valve.

Yeah i saw the wire inside but it looks ridiculous to pull the inflator to dump.
