Jacket style BC
« on: 15 Dec 10, 09:50 »
Seems like most members here are using the rear inflate or backplate BC. Any jacket BC fan here? Any make and model of the Jacket BC to recommend?

My dad has gotten so used to the Jacket BCD that when he used my rear inflated, he felt so uncomfortable underwater he asked to switch back with me the next dive. He uses the Scubapro ones.

honestly i prefer my jacket BC, except that it's heavy. i find it more comfortable, and easier to put on compared to my BP/wing set.

it comes with pockets so i don't have things hanging all over me. i can comfortably keep my SMB+reel, nitrox and DUP slates, spare mask, a storm trooper, and boba fett in the pockets.

if you want to try, you can borrow my seacsub BCD. i'm looking to sell it anyway so you can try before you decide. first guys 165-180cm, 75kg and above.

I am using the 5-year old Tusa Platina Evolution BCD jacket. It come with Independent Harness System with back padding. You can adjust everything with this BCD. It's very well made and comfortable, I almost can sleep in it.  ;D

I don't think anyone carry them in Singapore now, but you can get them online at stock clearing price.

The big zipper pocket is cool because I use it to keep everything that antacid said and some old cookies, bananas and whatnot. I can even fit my old Ixus with casing in the pocket.

Everything about this BCD is good except that its bulky and quite heavy. I don't used any weight in the pool and need to carry only two weight when diving with 3mm and hood. Still it felt like I am slightly overweight and can most probably do with one.

When I was looking for a BCD a while back, read a fair bit of good reviews on Mares. Although, I did read a fair share of reviews criticising the quality and longevity of the gear. Same goes for their wetsuits. Leisurepro and Scubatoys has quite a wealth of feedback on mares BCD worth looking at.

Most Mares bcds are pretty good.  I'd avoid the hub though.

Am looking at the Mares Prestige MRS Plus over at the Scuba Store. With delivery will be S$480. That price is fairly ok?
