Maintaining BC
« on: 02 Jun 10, 21:00 »
After every use, I've rinsed the internal and external of the BC before inflatting it. I am just not sure if I should unscrew the inflator hose to let the inside dry, or even sprinkle a bit of powder in after it dries. Just to make sure it doesnt stick. Is this advisable?

Its ok if the inside of the BCD isn't 100% dry.... just keep it inflated in storage.... no need 100% inflate, as it would take up lots of space... just enough to keep the rubber inside from sticking. Pump it up every once in a while.  ;)

Thanks. Is it advisable to unscrew the inflator hose? I keep my BC in my dive bag and the hose tends to bend a tad.

If you remove the inflator hose... how could you keep the BCD inflated ???

Normally I keep my BCD inside a cupboard, hanged on a strong hanger and inflated.... the inflator hose is kept in a normal position.

My advice is that , do not unscrew the inflator that fits together with the bcd. It all depend what bcd you are using  I used Diverite travel wing and was inform by the manufacture that the parts which join on the bcd has been screwed and adjusted to the specification. Inflate a bit of air inside and keep at a cool room temperature is good enough.

Maybe if you want it to airdry the bladder out you could unscrew your dump valves instead? Still might not dry completely though.

Just wondering, might be a "joy" discovering a colony of fungi growing in the bladder after many years of being left moist.
