  • I recommend Halcyon (if got $) or Frog (if got no $)

  • Can't say for Oxycheq, but I have both Dive Rite (Travel EXP) and Halcyon (Evolve 40) wings. The parts like dump valve and inflator hose assembly are generic and similar.

The outer material are different, where the Halcyon uses a thicker, albeit rougher material, while the DR is rather thin. DR wings have the "Armored XT" version, but I can't really comment on that. The ones I've seen in the shop seem more plasticky/rubbery. Maybe someone who dives it can comment?

The bladder of the Travel EXP, I believe is a generic polyurethane bladder. It's bigger than the wing shape of the Travel EXP and so, there's lots of creases and crumples  in it, especially when inflated.

The bladder on the Halcyon seems to be made to fit, and when inflated, fills up the whole wing nicely.

  • For these established brands, you generally get what u paid for.  And sometimes, paying more for a proven item can translate to better value.  I find my halcyon stuff generally ages and stand up to my abuse very well.
So they call it a 'FACT' coz someone made some statements on a 'FACT SHEET'? hummm...

In an attempt to answer your question directly.. I would suggest Dive Rite..it is simply my preference because of their long history(30+ years) of quality and excellent customer service.. and my extended experience with many of their products.. I dive the VoyagerPac for single cylinder dives..the TransPac for doubles..and I use the Nomad for sidemount.. Is Dive Rite always perfect? No, but in my 33 years of diving I have not found a better company that consistently stands behind their products. Just my opinion..

  • DR sorted out my BCD when the top valve separated from the bladder causing leaks. Even though the BCD was more than 5 years old and discontinued, I shipped it to them in the US and they fixed it and put on the new outer layer. It looks like it's a brand new BCD now.

It took me about 6-8 weeks for the whole process though. Still, it beats having to buy a new BCD!

  • Somehow I have my wing just in front of me "just came back from a trip".

I'm using Diverite Travel XT "armored" version. Can't comment on other brands.

The side that facing out using hardened material, sturdy and it's meant to protect the inner bladder when you do cave diving(?).  Or any occasion where you have many sharp objects around.

Looks overkill for fun dives? Yes it is.  But an additional 50bucks for a 5-10yrs of investment won't hurt. I found it handy while on the boat dive where sometimes we have to put our gears on the floor. It helps to protect.

However the side that facing your BP is not armored.  Still using the normal material. This is still have potential to wear and tear because of BP.  DR suggests to separate them while travelling.

    My five cents on Dr.
