*Rant* Suunto Quality Sucks

I have two (4) suunto dive computers, a D6 and a D4. Both less than a year old.

The D6 failed during a dive trip, at depth the D6 depth kept showing that I was going deeper and deeper, until the depth alarm went off. At the end of the dive, on the surface, the stupiak D6 still registered that I was diving. It only stopped the dive after 999minutes. Came back to Singapore, sent it back to the Dive Shop, they had to send it back to Finland to have its depth sensor replaced.

Now my D4 pulak farked up. During a recent trip, in the midst of a dive the D4 reset to factory date and time and did not log that particular dive. On another dive the same thing, while diving the comp just reset to factory date and time. Bring back to Singapore to have its battery replaced and pressure tested, same thing, the comp just reset during pressure test.

What sort of product quality is this? 100% failure rate.....

    SUUNTO QUALITY XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXX.....

Note from moderator... this part is unnecessary.

  • Seems a bit extreme having to send a Suunto Unit back to Finland... is there no authorized Suunto Service Centre in Singapore who can carry out repairs, i.e module changes e.t.c.. we have one here in Thailand.

There is no repair or servicing centre for Sunnto in S'pore.... if repair is needed, I think they do sent it to Thailand. Luckily... when my ZOOP was down... Dive Shop gave me a 1 to 1 exchange.

  • Those who got no problem with their D series Suunto Dive Computer, I happy for all of u. Thatís the way how a dive comp should be, RELIABLE ! Unfortunately, some of us just unlucky to own a defeet set. But consider good that Suunto always honor their warranty, usually they do 1 to 1 exchange if beyond repair.

Since D4, D6 have mentioned, I like to add in my D9 experience.

It happened 4 yrs ago, when it was so new less than 2 mths old, during a dive of itís 2nd dive trip. Suddenly it  keep beeping, and appear some funny funny digit like one moment I was at 25m, then go down to 60m then 10m, it just keep jumping around.

After surface, what happened to my D9 was like phantom76 said, it still registered that I was diving, going deeper and deeper, after donít know how long it stopped then go blank. So I know itís gone & keep it in drawer. Next morning when I take a look at it again, this was what happened to my D9.

I sent back to the dive shop where I bought it, and got a replacement after waiting for about 3 mths.

  • sounds like some kind of defective batch thing and they'll rather save the money from a recall by replacing whoever bothers to send theirs back.
replacing a defective fin strap is one thing, but computers arent supposed to fail

    > any users know if their computers are made AND assembled in Finland?

All Suunto products are assembled in Finland, some of the components are made elsewhere for sure.
