  • Hi decimal86

    i'm using this aquatec Duo-Alert ( http://www.aquatecusa.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5_74_78&products_id=67 )

its a air Whistle n scub-alert two in one thingy. good buy for me as underwater i can quack quack my buddy. next on surface at night i use the air whistle to give call the boatman; let him know which direction we are as there is a number of other diver from other boat beside my group..

  • just my opinion but underwater quackers are as only twice as obnoxious as the perpetual tank bangers.  There is far too much of people trying to drown out the sounds of the marine life.  Please use those things only in emergency rather than "Hey! Hey! Hey! LOOK HERE!!!!!!! A CLOWN FISH!!!!!"

Totally agree! For night dive, light is the best signaling device. Imaging more and more ppl having this horn.. Quack here.. Quack there.. Everywhere quack quack! So what's the difference from tank bangers? Nobody still know who is signalling who..  Just a whole lot more noisy! As it is, underwater is already full of unnecessary ting ting noise.. Cannot imagine it starts quacking!  :(
So they call it a 'FACT' coz someone made some statements on a 'FACT SHEET'? hummm...

  • I also hate these.  Nevertheless, if you must, the new dive alert has an underwater quack mode as well as the surface horn (the latter of which I do think is good).

  • I am using dive alert plus and tank banger. Usually when I am holding my camera rig is very difficult to signal my buddy or dive guide with tank banger, it will create hazard for my rig. I dropped my camera rig once luckily only 20m deep and it can be retrieved if in deep water I can kiss goodbye to camera  :'(

So now if I am holding my camera and I am using my dive alert to quack..quack.....

  • i would have to politely disagree with the seniors here about making signalling via sound whilst underwater.

then how the DM gonna call us?

  • Don't have such an issue with a DM having one (but a stick will do as well), it is every other bugger having one which then makes the DM's one useless anyway.

Ooh, fish - quack, bit of coral - quack, odd shaped rock - quack....

Gets pretty tedious, issue is people tend to use them far too often.

  • yes it's just like crying wolf. after 5 minutes in the water i ignore all the bangers. can't stand it when it's so noisy underwater.

i get the attention of my buddy(s) without using any signaling devices except my vocal cords. seems to work for short ranges around 2-5m. that's how far away your buddy should be anyway  ::)
