  • Hey there!
Just went through the forum and found this thread:
    Maldives Diving.
    http://scubasg.com/index.php?topic=2874.0

Topic started in 2011, has nearly 9000 views. I think that this theme (Diving on Maldives) is interesting for a lot of us. I think it's a good idea to start a new topic about this country.

I live and work in the Maldives and I will be able to answer to your different questions about the country. Please write, ask questions, share that you know. Thread is open for all.

    Thanks!

  • Cool, I will be going to Male 2nd week of oct (flying in on tueday night, out on sunday afternoon) for the weekend.
Will be staying at Bandos. Is that a good place to dive?
Doubt I will be able to do LOB since my wife will be working there.

Most likely will be doing a full day dive on Friday.

  • I've never tried LOB before but I've puked a few times on boat dives from land based resorts.

    1) If I want to dive Maldives without LOB, would it be worth it?
    2) Which land based resort and dive center would be advisable?

Hmm ... this is a serious symptom. The only cure is to DIVE more often !!   ;D
My wife had it, now ok.

  • Just to share, I went to Reethi Beach Resort, the dive centre is located on the island. Seaexplorers. It's managed by a Swiss guy. Their dm or instructors are skilled and before ur first dive, u have to go for a test, verify your skill level (unless u're experienced then don't need) I went for 4 boat dives with them, they go by the book. Dive site briefing, before and after dive to do... The reason why I choose Reethi was that it's a Deutsch managed or swiss..cannot remember. But i met visitors are from Sweden Switzerland and UK. If u check, there are resorts run by swiss, Deutsch, Italian...the people visiting will also follow. I didn't meet any China or Asians on the island when I was there.

Best time to dive Maldives is between Jan to Mar. Crystal clear water and calm sea. It's the peak season and of course more expensive and a bit crowded but this is the best time to enjoy Maldives.

If this is your first time going to Maldives, spend a bit more and go during the peak season. Don't go during the off-peak because you are likely be disappointed and join the "Maldives is Overrated Club".  There are so many divers in SG that think Maldives is overrated because they went at the wrong time and during off-peak season.

If you are not comfortable on the boat, it's possible to dive Maldives from land based. Check this my trip here:
