  • Excited 'bout diving!
Hi everybody!

I am a total newbie at diving, i just got my advanced recently. I would really like to take a free diving course next to try out and improve my breathing.

Does anyone have any recommendation of where and with who should I do it with (overseas or local)? Is there anywhere I might be able to learn it at a lower price?

 :)

To make things easy, might as well list all the local guys for you to contact and make a decision. In no particular order of preference.....

1. Singapore Freedivers. Run by Bernard Wong, he's been operating the longest in Singapore. (I think 3 years?)  Does AIDA 1 star in the pool (Local) and AIDA 2 star in Tioman/Cebu (overseas). He probably conducts courses in other overseas locations too.

2. Zen Freediving. Run by Michelle Ooi and Chris Kim, they run AIDA courses in Singapore waters. You can get certified with AIDA 2 star with them locally.

3. FreediveXQ. Run by Fu Xing Qiang. He runs courses to Tioman.

4. Blue Reef Scuba. A Scuba - shop that has paired up with Jonathan Chong to offer Freediving courses. Conducts courses both locally and overseas.

5. Singapore Freediving Academy - These guys teach PADI, SSI and Apnea International courses. They teach weekday and weekend courses both locally and overseas and are probably the largest guys in SG atm.  They also run regular training sessions and overseas trips.

Best to contact each individual on prices.

For popular (nearby) overseas locations.....

Cebu -
Moalboal
Panglao
Boracay
Bali

I'll be in Camiguin (near Cebu) in Feb to do freediving course with http://www.kurmafreedive.com/!
Let you know more when I get back if I can remember =x (and if you are interested! haha)
It's a 3 days WSF/RAID FREEDIVER course (theory available for you to do at your own time before the course) and costs PHP12,500.00
Don't really know the market rate, cos I didn't really research into it. Just planning for a trip to philippines and saw this option available, so I just jumped at it!

Heys! I'm back. haha, now a freediver under RAID.
Really fun experience! started with barely 1min of breath-hold and I extended it to approx. 2 min of breathhold at the end :D
Love diving but i'm quite wary in the water~ so it was a little hard for me to relax and go further down.
This certification is pretty much the equivalent of AIDA 2 star, which lets you go down to max of 20m.

Note: If you dive a lot and consider getting a divecom, do get one with the freediving function! :)

As mentioned above, the one I took was 12500php, which converts to approx. S$380
I think it is about the same as scuba course too. apparently scuba courses now easily hit S$600, but that should come with transport and stay at malaysia, right?
