MO: OSTC Sport Dive Computer
« on: 24 Jul 15, 06:21 »
Hi All. Doing an interest check for this dive computer. Bought one last year through a mass order as well. Small and very well made dive computer from Germany which uses an AA battery for power and has a very nice and bright LCD colour screen as well as a digital compass. More details about the computer on their website.

I read the manual a little.  The battery life part.
Battery full? Check  the  battery  status  using  the battery indicator on the display. To ensure reliable  performance  throughout  your dive,  the  battery  must  be  sufficiently high.  A  new  lithium  primary  cell  (SAFT LS14500)  allows  up  to  50  hours  of diving,  a  quality  alkaline  AA  battery  (e.g. Duracell  Ultra  Power)  about  20  hours.  a lithium  1,5V  AA  battery  (e.g.  Energizer E2) about 30 hours.

The above is base on diving hours... So..  If we do a week long trip.  U probably need to change the battery after that?

What is the rate of battery change are u looking at since it does not really say with sleep mode and stuff..  How long will it actually last...

My wife actually used it while i use the petrel. For OLED/LCD computers, i'm using rechargeable batteries which i typically change every 3-4 days doing 3 dives a day. The thing with AA batteries is that you can use alkaline or rechargeables both of which are cheap in the long run. The computer has a battery meter that goes by percentage so you know when to change. Also i blast the screen at quite high brightness which will eat the battery a fair bit.
