  • Sorry, so just like to confirm.

CGW does not need you to inform them you are buying something?
Like in vPost case, they kinda match the item to the list you tell them it's shipping to them.

  • Not familiar with vPost. For CGW, you just need to ship to them. They will notify you via email when the shipment arrives.

  • CGW FTW! beware their customer service can be quite slow sometimes... but maybe they are still a small team.

i personally dont agree to go with Vpost, just look at the complains made by its customers,

Ok, thanks. Good to hear that cause I can't remember how I use it the last time.

     :)
I know of the bad experience from vPost but, personally, didn't have much problem with them.
Maybe I don't get stuff from oversea that often as well.
But as CGW uses DHL/Fedex, I have the tracking option which is what I wanted this time round.

DO NOT USE vPOST if Buying stuff from overseas / US

  • Beware of vPost before you setup your account with them, Singpost simply has its inherent limitations - its customer service is simple subpar and operating hours limited.

Vpost would just simply bill based on Volume/weight calculation; you shipping cost would run into hundreds and add up with your purchases that reach the S$400 GST trashhold.

After open the account for the 1st time I was charged SGD140 shipping charge by vpost for an item weighed 3.84 lbs from Amazon. They even charge you Admin Fee if the items are being collected back by your supplier.

Hi all, I said i would do a write out on how to buy from the US. Since someone pmed me and asked me, i thought i might as well do it now.

I use comgateway mainly to ship my stuff to Singapore. The other companies like vpost are similar if you choose to do so. I've done more than 40 or 50 shipments with Comgateway and they have never failed me before, so i continue to use them. Its your own preference.

    1. Register with comgateway. (You need an Amex, OCBC or HSBC credit card)
    2. Obtain your 'US' address.
    3. Purchase your stuff from any US website. (They must accept your payment method. Some sites do not accept non-US credit cards or funds)
    4. Ship to the above US address.
    5. When the items arrives at that address, you will receive an email notification. You can store your items there up to 30 days. If you have more than 1 package to send, you may wait for the rest to arrive and consolidate the shipment.
    6. Upon receipt of all your items, check all the packages you wish to send and proceed to make payment.
    7. After payment, you will receive a shipment notification usually at the end of the day to let you know the DHL tracking number.
    8. Wait for the package to arrive.

    Note / Tips :
    a) no GST charges up to US$300
    b) Delivery from US to SG is via DHL and tracking all the way is available.
    c) Insurance for lost packages is tagged to the amount declared for the packages. If you under declare and lose the items, its your problem.
    d) You may call DHL for self-collection at their distribution centers if you need the items urgently. (esp if items arrive on Sat/Sun)
    e) Free upgrade of shipping to express for most credit cards using comgateway.
    f) US$11 for 1st KG and US$2.7 for 0.5 kg thereafter.
    g) Try and 'plan' your shipments. e.g. if you have many packages and you know its going to incur GST, break it up to 2 shipments. Might be cheaper. If your item is more than US$300, then too bad. just pay govt.
    h) There is promo usually for first time user, so you will get 10-15$ off your shipment.
    i) The system will tell you that you incur GST. In this case you can cancel the shipment and 'repackage' your shipment.
    j) if the item is very bulky, be prepared to pay a huge sum for shipping. In short, don't ship bulky items using this service!

    Try it, its easy. =)

I'm not sure where i should post this, so if this category is wrong, mods, pls move it. Thx.

  • i had never trust anything that starts with a Sing in front of it, Vpost use Singpost, you should go take a look at that FB page, almost everyday there's unhappy customer dissing them. thus you cant even arrange the Shipment to be deliver each time slot you want, ends up you Q up and gg collect it at Singpost. want to find out where your parcel is? forget about calling them, their CS are clueless as nuts.

my advice is stick with comgateway, been using them to ship all kinda stuff, Cameras, Clothes, knifes, diving stuff etc, somemore they are using DHL express, their Delivery can be flexible.
DBS or POSB got even free upgrade to express.

  • i have a bad experience with singpost too, send something over to USA, item lost, but covered by insurance for up to $68, must claim within 6 mth.they keep asking for documents even i submitted the claim with supporting documents twice. they won't even bother to contact me regarding the progress , and i'll have call and check with them from time to time. and as usual, those pinoys will try to play taichi with me,their main objective is for me to hang up the phone. this goes on for another few months, and now they tell me the case alr more than 6 months, so cannot claim.

Bottom line, avoid singpost/speedpost as much as possible.
