my 5 cents worth? Choose the instructor, not the certifying agency or shop.

Agreed. I used to do divemastering at a sufficiently reputable dive shop. Have seen my fair share of good and bad instructors.

I went for a cheap leisure trip and I regretted. My whole group shake head... $250 for tioman. Next time I will ask how many max pax stated for the boat n how many pax will be on board.

If it is cheap n with the normal number of pax, I am ok. Cos going for leisure trip.

You won't like diving if you learnt it in Hantu

i actually learn my OWD in Huntu, honestly nothing much to see but i like the training there, it actually built confident and from there on, no where i go is as bad as huntu.. But again i was very lucky to have a very good instructor in my personal opinion which also help in the confident building.

Scuba diving takes a lot of discipline and one has to be observant too as there are many micro organisms off Hantu.  Took my OW and AOW locally, I would say the visibility is no doubt intimidating but sure is a good training ground.  Most importantly, the dive crew must know the sites well and spaced the divers well, if too close then undeniably the visibility deteriorates with every kick the diver in front made.
