I think you mean Open WATER course...  :P

Yes... for $500, its quite possible. But I'll let the other Bro and Sis to recommend the Dive Center... since I'll not dive with any DC in S'pore for years... Just remember, cheap doesn't always mean safe or good... same for $$$$ too.  :P

If you are signing up alone, $500 is quite a challenge, as you may need to pay for single supplement costs, unless there are groups that are willing to include u.

Normally with a group of 4 or more, you would have more bargaining powers to bring down the pricing.
There's a list of dive centers in the forum, and they do offer promotions from time to time.
SSI - Master Instructor
SDI - Scubility Instructor
TDI - Sidemount & Adv Nitrox Instructor
NBDHMT - Dive Medic Technician

Is it even possible to do Open Water course below $500 these days? :o

TS, suggest you do some research first and I highly suggest you don't use price as your deciding factor. Open Water is a foundation to your future diving endeavor and you want to have a solid one to begin with.

Have a read at this thread http://scubasg.com/index.php?topic=3229.0

I don't think anyone here will recommend you any dive center that can conduct OW below $500, even if there is any. If you ever find one, please be extra cautious...

Erm, just my 2 cents.

I tends to agree with the others.

You wanna to pay $499 to dive and have nose bleed or you wanna pay $509 with everything swee swee?

I'm not saying by paying $10 more everything will be tip top.
What I want to say is the price diff between difference DC in SG is typically between a few $10, maybe $580 to $620.
You wanna find an instructor or DM that is good, not the cheapest one (though it may be).

I need to 3 trips after my OW to know how to dive without experiencing some form of pain.
If the instructor now ask me for $50 more and learn everything during OW, then I will pay for it because the $$$ I spend on the 3 trips is maybe 20 times more.

Just a joke ....
Good and cheap, must wait
Good and fast, must pay more
Cheap and fast, must be lousy
Good, cheap and fast ....  don't exist    :D

Learn in local water, dive at P.Hantu that should be much lower than $500.

Since u pay less, to be fair for those who pay higher like $550 to $600 go to tioman/dayang, u will get less visibility, u will see less marine life, u will see less colour (basically only greenish), u will see less bikini babe and u will get less enjoyment and less fun.

i think below $500 is kinda hard but below 550 is still possible. you can try SSI open water dive course instead of PADI open water. SSI should be cheaper due to royalties and materials etc. Quality in terms of teaching and equipment should be about the same. Wait for ADEX 2013. U might be able to get some good deals, especially agencies such as SDI, TDI, IANTD etc.. For PADI, its kinda impossible..

Correct... its not a 'must' for everyone to do their OWD course in Tiomam /Aur / Dayang.... Hantu will be within Budget... but is it worthwhile just to save maybe $100-$150... that's up to TS  :P

When u buy insurance, do you go for the cheapest premium offered?

How much is your life worth?

Save up for it and do it only when you are ready.

There are reasons why reputable dive schools charge more. Think about it...
