  • I don't think he is talking about the usual scuba removal and don, but skin ditch and don.

  • great thing about PADI is they are a big organisation :D
proper training manuals, dvds, charts, tables, even dive apparel  8)
immediately recognised and accepted worldwide too (esp if u want to teach as instructor or do DM work)
worthwhile to 'try' different organisations when taking future courses or simply hanging out amongst friends, to get a feel for the variety of focus and doctrine they use and why, to better understand others when going on LOBs. i'd say, for example, taking a SSI, or CMAS, or BSAC specialty course could be very interesting

  • I took my NAUI courses from a seasoned course director who is also a lifeguard examiner, and I learned a lot from him on dive safety and rescue. I especially enjoyed my rescue course a lot. He didn't stop at the requirements and had us try out several rescue techniques both on Scuba and skin. We also tried par-buckling etc. He even taught us a bit of 推拿 to help ease sea-sickness. lol

Though I'm SSI trained, I've had the privilege of working with this course director from NAUI, and he is one of the most respectable instructors in Singapore's diving industry. I did learn a lot from him when he taught some of my friends.

That being said, I do not think that any skills taught are exclusive to each agency, cos everyone seems to be teaching the same drills. However, methodology may be different in the learning of SCUBA between agencies, but the most important thing is that how the student learns. And what the student learns will affect how he dives and practice his own safety.

my experience with students is that to always bring across the most basic skills first. If the student is competent in that, then will i promote and practice some confidence skills.
I would not recommend doing the skin ditch/don if he can't even do a proper surface dive yet.
