But isn't it very misleading... imagine someone goes for this... and den thinks now he can dive anywhere ....

And i know some DC overseas may be a bit slack in checking ur Cards... very dangerous sia..

shouldn't there be like an official body in Singapore to ensure this kinda thing

Nope but feel free to pick one "tooth fairy" to write to though I doubt they'll do much seeing how Amazing probably hasn't broken the law (perhaps pushing it will be informed consent). But anyway, there's contestant no:

1. Singapore Sports Council
SSC has a figurative hand over water sports though they don't have a purveyance over the legality of how DCs run their businesses

2. Singapore Underwater Federation

SUF might be what you're thinking of looking for but their last active business on their website is a legal memo of their meeting minutes circa 6 months ago. Both of which I've no interest to write to nor deal with.

This seems to be a sport where a bottoms up approach is much more meaningful to advocating change seeing how divers are frequently dive outside of SG, their top-down purveyance ends once we cross the customs or international air space. You want a meaningful change, write to the DC in question instead and tell them you're very very cross they "bluff" people and you'll not eat Babi guling until they reply you.

Or you can do what I do, just avoid them like a plague and tell people around you to avoid them for this stupid deal just to deprive them of my small small earthworm contributions to their misguided business model. Once in a while, shoot them a dirty look if you spot them on the boat and spit in their general direction (mental note to remember to spit at my DM friend).

Personal experience to share..

Saw the deal awhile ago, called them up to enquire before purchase. They didnt answer to the many questions we had to double confirm that it is a OW course we are signing up for with proper certification at the end of the day.

They said to call us back, but in the end they didnt. Another friend called again, and they told her that we gotta top up $400 for this that and the other.... (i.e, pls read fine prints before u purchase!!!)   >:(

They are super misleading & dishonest!

As for writing to the newly setup federations? wats the point if there are of the 'same' gang?  :(

This would be a good deal for newbie who wish to "test water" before committing to a full course.. But really gotta read carefully as the title is really kinda misleading..  ;D

Actually can i just ask...

I know discover scuba is for ppl to try try...but....

Is there any use for Discover Scuba Certificate?
Does it permit you to do anything that normal non-cert people can do?

From what i see is that Discover Scuba does have a Certificate as a form of recognition..  Don't think it would permit any open water diving activities..

wtih a PADI DSD certification you can dive up to 12m under the direct supervision of an instructor or DM with a DSD rating. so technically yes it allows you to "dive anywhere in the world"

speaking on personal experience on dsd, it just a normal pool tryout with the mask clearning being though
