PADI open water course inclusive materials & rental equipment - RM950 per person
accomodation for 4d3n - RM150 per person (for twin room)
so is about RM1100 = SGD463 per person

if 8 to 10person, can hire a chartered bus about SGD450 from SG-mersing-SG
ferry ticket will be RM35 one way

is the above open course reasonable? and diving at Tekek, is it very crowded?

  • if u have 8-10 pax, u should have negotiaoted for better pricing with both Spore/Msia instructors.
The price u were quoted is current market price.
Diving in Tekek wont be crowded since u are doing OW, it will be shore entry.
Other opts u should look at is check with local spore instructors to do pool/theory on weekdays and finish off with a weekend trip to Tioman/Dayang and then go for ur 4d3n trip and enjoy ur dives as OWD.

  • i think is not bad. ~538 for 4d3n.
but the course is in msia? are you able to absorb that much of the course(theory & practical) within that short period?
the schedule will be quite hectic..
    my 5 thinking..
revolution is nothing but the start of the next fall.

yeah, absorption, water confidence skills do vary ...
all u need is some troublemaker cannot equalise and it makes the situation not so fun
might be worth considering pre-trip pool sessions, test out gear and do some exercises first (mask clear, use of bcd) then u enjoy much more at the sea...

it is abit more spend, however if u think about it travelling to tioman might as well spend as much time enjoying rather than doing exercises there

  • Tekek is further up north, not as crowded.  There is a reef (Pilot's Reef) in the Bay, easy dive for new divers.  However, there is a marina over there thus surface traffic is higher than average.  The last I was there, seems to have more rubbish floating on surface too.
So they call it a 'FACT' coz someone made some statements on a 'FACT SHEET'? hummm...

  • its actually a lot easier and less stress if you're doing the full course over 4 days on the island. i think you will enjoy it more too.

however, the cons of going up on your own to do that are:
    - difficult to follow up if you dont get your certification card, compared to a local dive shop
    - won't meet hot babes or hunks from singapore who can be your future dive kakis
    - more difficult to go on other trips in future because you don't have a local dive shop that you frequent
    - hard to get equipment purchase advise
    - you miss out on getting plugged in to the local dive community!
    - might potentially be more expensive and troublesome because you have to arrange everything on your own. what if the van doesn't turn up? or the ferry is cancelled? at least with a local dive op, everything will be taken care of. just board the van/bus, and switch off your brains. before you know it you're on the island and diving. i'd gladly pay $50-100 more for the ease and convenience. not to mention having someone to scream at if something goes wrong...  :D
