  • i suggest spending 2-3 days at tulamben, then moving to sanur/seminyak/kuta to do the Manta point dives. otherwise you spend lots of time traveling up and down (not to mention waking up bloody early), and after the manta point day, you still have to go back to the airport anyway. so might be better to break up the travel, and move to sanur/seminyak/kuta after you're done with diving at tulamben. this way, after the manta point dives you get to roam around town for food, shopping, and R&R which you don't get at tulamben.

I suggest the reverse order in terms of diving. So that you don't get the OMFG it's freezing feeling moving from tulamben 26-29 degrees to manta points 18-24 degrees.

  • I was in Bali in Sept 2016 (first trip in Sep 2014).  Did a dive at Manta Point and I thoroughly enjoyed it!  It's not that deep, so it shdn't be too challenging for new divers.  The surge was ok when I was there, minimal current experienced too.  Maybe you guys can partner more experienced divers with newer divers.  This can give the new divers a bit more confidence.

(not sure if it'll be cold in May period though, since I've not done trips there in May period).

  • Thanks for all your feedback. Has anyone dived manta point in May? How jialat is the cold ah? My newbies have not done anything other than Tioman, so I think exposing them to sub 20 from the start would be a bit shocking for them. Hopefully in May (unlike Sept), the water would be slightly warmer.

  • Diving conditions for Bali is quite straightforward. The temperature difference between the north and the south of Bali differs 9-10 degrees.

  • Yes, easier to stay in Sanur to dive Manta Point, otherwise you are going to sit in a car a LOT. Book Tulamben for a few days and then move to Sanur to organise a day trip to Nusa Penida, and maybe dive Padang Bai for a day as well, which is nice.

  • Thanks for all that feedback. We have booked our trip: 1 diving day in Sanur for manta point (and the like), followed by 3 diving days in Tulamben. Look forward to bringing back some nice photos and memories! Will update about the trip. The next challenge is not spending any too much money at ADEX before the trip :P
