  • When I stayed at Lembongan 3 years ago, I was quite bored:
    -  little to do on that island
    -  no tv nor aircon in the resort I stayed at
    -  dive sites were repeated and really, almost no diff this from that site (did about 10 dives and I was really bored)
    -  operator Big Fish didn't want to go Manta Point, claiming we have good chance to see manta at Manta Bay which i felt outright CHEATED

Only been to manta point so far and not manta bay.

The hotel I stayed at while at Padang bai did have air con and even cable tv which actually helped to pass the time at night.

It sounds like u prefer staying at Padang bai as compared to lembongan

  • Lembongan isn't totally bad.  I did enjoyed the complete away from city, back to kampung feel.  Due to diving and also the lack of amenities, can't help but feel sleepy by about 9+pm, so yes, I gotten ample sleep.  Apart from that, the shops and eating places were limited then(2014).  Not sure if it has improved since.

Padangbai isn't like, way better better.  The short street with mainly restaurants and a few mama shops were alright.  A few places to drink at night.  The resort I stayed at recently, Beji Resort, has aircon and tv (but aircon position in the wrong wall, don't feel the coolness and tv has no antenna (wonder why a tv in the first place).

Overall I still love Kuta.  The hotel I stayed at whenever I go Bali is, Grand Rama Istana Hotel, next to Beachwalk shopping center.  Very convenient.  The block I stayed at is at the back, so it's away from the road noise.

  • Lembongan has undergone a huge amount of development in the last year or so. 3 or 4 surf shops have popped up along the main street, new hotels, bars and restaurants all over the place, and of course a whole bunch of tourists that come along with it. You certainly won't find it as boring now :)

  • Guess next time I plan a Bali trip, I may just plan a few nights at Lembongan.  I heard of the developments but didn't expect it to be so different from 3yrs back.
