Just did a very brief (3 day) trip to Lombok. Stayed at Gili Air at Manta Dive.
Efficient transfer and on way back they organised a trip to see some stuff on Lombok as flight was not until 730 pm, went to see a waterfall, nice but bl**dy hard work.
Anyway, onto diving.
All off jukung and back rolls, about 10-20 mins to dive sites, single dive and back again. As off season mostly only me and a friend on the boat. DM was very good (Opik). I don't log dives anymore but some stuff I recalled.
Meno wall - drift, many turtles. About 25m, finished with 20 minds around 5 m.
Others. Jetty on mainland. Muck dive, was getting well pissed off after about 20min thinking "what the hell are we doing here". Briefing went along the lines of rubbish viz, no coral and look out for fishing lines, oh and be careful or you will silt stuff up. Nice start. Anyway, after about halfway through it got better. Frogfish, seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish. Apparently they have blue ring and mimic octopus there but we didn't see them.
Round the Gilis. Mostly pretty good. Few octopus, cuttlefish, many scorpionfish (including some pure white ones which was new), loads of turtles, sodding enormous sea snake. No sharks or mantas (wrong season anyway for Mantas, that said Opik admitted he had never seen one ever). Lots of blue spotted rays though nut not quite the same.
Last day were mean't to go to an originally named site called shark point, got there and were waved away as due to weather as another boat there was sinking. Apparently the first boat sent to help them also sank (didn't see this first hand but did see the first one and didn't look good).
Anyway, was a good trip. Gilis very laid back, no traffic, nice atmosphere. Downside is food options are very limited. Resort was nice and I reckon good value Two people did try to sell me drugs within 10 minutes of getting there (literally, one was a porter, hadn't even got to the room) though and Air is a quiet island, God knows what Trawangan is like.....
