  • I just bought a S90, gonna get an ikelite casing from scubacam next month.
Thought about the G11 but it's bulkier.

are you  considering a strobe as well?

Not at the moment but i thought the ikelite casing will allow more room and flexibility for strobe, lenses etc in the future.
The Canon casing seems good and cheaper but read in forums that another attachment is needed for other lenses...

    any suggestions for newbie?

whether canon or ikelite housing makes no difference for strobe attachement as u need to get a tray+handle for it, ikelite housing comes with threaded 67mm port which allows u to screw on those inon lens, while for canon housing, u need to buy additional snap on adaptor to fix these lenses.

If you have the spare $100 or so then ikelite will be the way to go for the long run. It has a better shutter release mechanism and better build quality (thicker plastic wall) so it should stand up to use and last longer than the canon housing. plus the fact that to add on lens to the canon housing you'll be spending about 60-100+ on an attachment whereas the ikelite housing comes with a port that allows you to attach wet lens on it already.

How about the Fisheye FIX S90 housing? seems like it's a popular choice too.

    What is a Fix housing?

It's a japanese company that manufactures housings, video lights. They have a partner that produces DSLR housings i think, seatool.

This housing is slightly bigger than the camera only, all functions available even the rear control dial plus a very nice looking shutter release mechanism plus 67mm threaded port for wet lens. It's made from aluminum alloy.

  • The FIX casing is black and cool. However, not sure if it practical compare to the transparent Ikelite casing.  There are better chances to check if the o-ring leaking is its transparent.

for such small housings and cameras, chances are that if it has a leak, it's probably gone case whether or not you can look thru the housing back and check.
