i think in AV mode the camera defaults to 1/60 as the slowest shutter speed, assuming you are at 0 EV (exposure compensation). this way, you won't get overly blurred shots.

and agree with siaokao. was told to not use flash for anything more than an arm's length away :)
just got a navsteel w17v. gonna try it as an external light for upcoming trip ^^
