Akona / Bare Hoods

  • I will be heading to Bali in little over 3 weeks, and I am wondering where can I get Bare / Akona hoods here?
I heard the water there can get chilly to downright rediculous at Nusa Penida.

  • from Singapore 1-2mm hood can liao i think - try oceanic shop at selegie
perhaps if u have time, online could be cheap also (e.g. scubastore.com or ebay..)
reason is, if u get thicker hood it's unlikely u'll use for future dives apart from nusa penida...

  • Well I am not sure how effective it is in keeping my warm.
I feel I loose most of my heat from my body.

I would think I would never wear a hood here in Malaysia/Singapore as the water is very warm.. I usually just dive with board shorts and a rash guard.

Just buying the hood for safe guard.

  • Waters at Nusa Penida can hit as low as 16 degree celsius. Malaysian waters usually hover between 27 - 30 degree celsius. Its up to your comfort level.

I too dive in thermal guard and boardshorts in Malaysian waters. But I zip myself up with the thermal guard, 3mm full suit, and a 1.5mm hood when I hit Crystal Bay. And hell, its still brrr........  8)

  • Hmmm wearing a hood doesn't only keeps you warm. It protects your face against stings or other stuffs which may be sensitive to your face... and  prevent your hair floating around especially like Medusa  :D
