Having seen many queries and questions about which dive computer is the best and having used 2 brands mainly over the years, I would maybe like to introduce a different segment of dive computers for the folks out there. I believe it's the future of dive computers or at least will be increasing in popularity in the near future.
I've started using LCD/OLED screen based computers over the past 2-3 years for a couple of reasons.
1) Really nice and readable screens, even at night without the use of backlights
2) User up gradable software and firmware
3) User adjustable algorithms (can be very liberal, but you have a choice of adding levels of conservatism)
4) Easily replaceable batteries
Since then, i have owned or used a number of these computers including: Liquivision Kaon & Xeo, Diverite Nitek Q, Shearwater Petrel and the OSTC Sport.
Of these, my latest purchase the OSTC Sport seems the most value for money and with a very good combination of features in a pretty small package.http://www.heinrichsweikamp.com/?id=362&version=en
It has a very nice and bright LCD screen which is user programmable to show the information you want. It has a recreational dive mode for beginners. It uses easily available single AA battery. It has an electronic compass. It is made in a sleek alloy casing with scratch resistant glass face. Best of all IMO is the competitive price which is about the same as a Suunto D4.
Just thought i would share my good experiences using this type of computers with the forummers.
