I used to(before yr2000) take bus to Larkin bus terminal(SBS 170) and change bus(Transnational and some others) to Mersing.
I notice some of the bus to Kuantan do stop drop/pick passages at Mersing, can try that. But note the roundabout and jetty can be a distance especially with dive gears.

Bus station opposite mersing jetty has few operators driving back to jb/Singapore. There is Transnasional bus leaving at 1:30pm on Sunday for those going for weekend trip

I went to Tioman in August last year and took the public bus. As others have mentioned, take any bus that goes to the customs, and take a bus to Larkin bus terminal from the Malaysian customs. At Larkin, there are several bus companies that operates buses from Larkin to Mersing. You can buy the bus tickets over the counter (which I did), subject to availability. There are usually at least 1 bus leaving every 1 or 2 hour throughout the day, so if the bus is full, the most you have to wait is around 2 hours. During peak season, you might want to book the tickets in advance to be safe, in case the tickets run out, especially if you have specific timings to meet (chasing the boat timing, etc).

I bought single trips at the counter each time. But I believe they should sell return tickets as well. I would recommend single trip tickets if the timing is tight as the Mersing ferry may not be on time. If the bus if full, there is always another bus not too long later. There is a proper bus terminal with a food court attached. The terminal is about 10-15 mins walk from the jetty.

I don't remember a souvenirs shop. There was a shop selling snacks and tidbits, and other hawker shops. I think there is an older bus terminal that is closer to the jetty (and I think also where the Singapore coaches stop. Not sure), but most of the malaysian buses go to this newer one. Search "Terminal Bas & Teksi Mersing" on Google Maps.

Ohhh ok!!!
That is like the opposite side of(away from) the jetty.

I've been to Tioman a couple of times and always take the Transnational bus to Kuntan which departs at 10pm (will stop by at Mersing). The return leg is from the Mersing bus station which is along the river but is about 10 minutes walk from the jetty. The bus is always delayed, sometimes by up to an hour so do factor that into consideration. Tickets can be bought online from redbus or onlinebustickets.. just google bus from Mersing to Singapore.

WTS has got an afternoon bus from Mersing JETTY to Singapore but getting a ticket from them is more complicated. Refer to their website to see what I mean. Nowadays I take a bus to mersing but on the return journey I can back all the way. Takes me only 5.5 hours from the ferry to Tioman to my bed at home. Cost is RM200 for taxi from jetty to Larkin and SGD55 for taxi from Larkin to home in Singapore. I like this arrangement because of all my heavy gear and because of the bus delays on the Malaysian side.

I usually buy the ticket from busonlineticket[dot]com for both ways.
They are few travel agency for different pick-up locations to tg gemok...
I'm still prefer a private hire car for return trip as mentioned by other divers due to heavy dive equipment (too bad... lack of diver for cost sharing)...

Hope it help!
