Title: Dayang enquiry
Post by: stevesteve on 04 Apr 11, 07:17
Hi guys, I know if one wants to dive in Dayang, one can easily book a slot with any dive centres in Singapore. But I'm wondering if its feasible to go on a free-and-easy type? Is there any dive centres in Dayang itself, where I can plan my own schedule, own bus ride, etc.? If so, what is the name of the dive centre that I can get in contact with?

As far as dayang goes, one is mainly constrained by ferry timing. U can make ur own arrangements up to mersing, I regularly drive up there myself. As long as u reach there in time for ferry ride (usually 12am sat morning). Unlike tioman, there r no regular commercial ferry service to island.  :)

Nope. From what i know. Vynx the boss doesn't deal with individual bookings so as not to undercut the Dive centres in Singapore.

Tioman is possible. As is a LOB leaving from singapore. Have just arranged a LOB charter for a weekend trip with friends.

in terms of??

Which one is better in terms of marine life diversity, thrilling spots, colour and clarity/visibility, beaches and landscape..... On average "all-in".

Im new ..... Just goin to take my open water, changed location from tioman to dayang... Never heard of dayang before but saw really nice pics of it!

Dayang is a nice cosy laid back place. Less ammenities. good variety of dive sites but not as many compared to tioman. But tioman you usually do not get to dive the better sites as it's further away from the resorts.

Some prefer tioman for the shorter ferry ride and possibly better resort facilities. But as far as overall balance to a diver, I think dayang is better.

My View:

Dayang- Sea journey is longer. There's a possibility of securing a sleeping berth or space to lie down for some of the ferries depending on number of people. Accomadation is basic, I like Dayang Blues as it's quad share, has toilets behind and is generally cleaner as people usually bother to wash their sandy feet and keep the place dry. The dorm style accomadations is rowdier usually but very sandy. Most dive sites are nearby meaning you usually get to come back to the resort after every dive. Good variety of sites for beginners to the advanced divers. No hot water showers on the island. food is ok but not great. I usually bring some food of my own there. beach is a nice whitish sand for beach lovers. jetty is next to resort so no need to walk long distances.

Tioman- Sea journey is shorter, but the ferry timings are not accurate esp on sunday returning. As a result you might be waiting for a long time at the jetty. Very good dive sites off the coast like tiger reef, magician's rock, etc. resort and food in general is much better than dayang with hot water showers. There's also an option of eating at food stalls if the resort food doesn't interest you. That will depend on which village you stay at. Jetty might be a fair distance away from resort meaning a long walk. Distance between dive sites usually means you go out for 2 dives in the morning before coming back to the resort for lunch.

I wouldn't say one place is better than the other. Just what your individual preference is. I prefer dayang. If i wanted to dive tioman i rather do it by LOB.
