Got a mixture of dive sites, though most dives will be spent out 'in the blue' looking for hammerheads. Last year we saw a large school of 20+ hammers, but they were pretty deep, maybe 50m or so (we were at 40+m), and each year they are sighted deeper and deeper. We only saw them on the last dive on the last day.. so depending on your luck you may or may not see any.

Corals for other sites are ok, a number of wall dives and a few shallow reef dives close to the edge of the drop for macro stuff. I guess in terms of big stuff, its similar to Sipadan in the variety, but not the quantity.

Still, very enjoyable and hassle-free place to dive... I like

Its different kind of diving.. Most ppl to LYLY go there for the hammers, which you won't see in Sipadan (unless you're damn lucky).. Sipadan is unrivaled in terms of variety and quantity of marinelife, sensory overload... LYLY you go to get your rocks off spotting hammerheads in the blue..

i went LL last year, almost every dives are deep dives...always get headache...din enjoy so much...only managed to see the elusive hammers on last dive..food only average (surprisingly never had a meal of fish there), instead had frozen squared sotongs almost every meal...

Wont ever go back unless its heavily heavily subsidised (just like how i went in the 1st place) and i have my kakis with me...

not sure if chef left already because they were on to their last few group at that time..Only reason i went was because it was super duper cheap(someone had to backout at the very last minute)...Next time if such a deal came up again, i really would think many times if i really wanna go...

My disclaimer : one man's steak is another's poison..

The diving part lor... so its not as nice as sipadan? except for the fact that we might or might not see hammers...??

Let me put it this way... if you haven't been to Sipadan, and are considering between Sipadan and LYLY, then Sipadan wins hands down.

If you have been to Sipadan, but wanna experience the thrill of diving for hammerheads, and cannot afford to go to the Galapagos or Red Sea, then LYLY is a good destination  ;D

It very much depends on what you want to see/dive/do.

Lyly is most famous for its hammerhead shark… people pay thousands just praying for a chance to see them. But if you are not so interested in seeing only hammerhead… then perhaps a more diver friendly location is more suitable for you… Sipadan, Manado, Bali, Similan… just to name a few.

These days more likely to see hammers in southern lombok (though diving is apparently very tricky, google magnet dive site).

Did see them in sipadan, only once and poor view but very lucky.

Also saw in png up front and personal and all the diving was awesome, better than sipadan imho, hammers or not. Bloody expensive though.

Was at the Magnet last year, saw 3 hammers on one dive... but yes, conditions were rough... rough surf, lotsa down currents... even on the surface.. our boatman wore a life-vest  :D :D

Definitely head to Sipadan, though once you go there, you will be sian with other places...  ;D

Nowadays when ppl in Dayang tell me got a "school" of 4-5 bumpheads, I ask them "you call that a school??"... hahaha cos you can see schools of hundreds of bumpheads in Sipadan, not to mention the wall of batfishes, and the thousand upon thousands of barracudas and jacks doing the vortex

We had a upclose & personal encounter with a couple of reef manta rays at Layang Layang, which was unforgettable. & lots of dolphins during the trip... We were satisfied with the food... Overall, happier with Layang Layang than Sipadan...
At Sipadan, it was barracudas, white-tip reef sharks & grey reef sharks...
Unfortunately, we are not in a huge hurry to return to both places.
Could you let me know the total price for each place? I think if Maldives is within $500 more, I would choose Maldives instead...  :P
