Any freedivers out there?

For me, equalization using Frenzal technique was the largest obstacle in my freediving course. Frenzel requires using the tongue to force air into the eustachian tubes while keeping your throat closed. This technique is important when trying to equalize diving down head first. Some people can do it intuitively & effortlessly while others take more effort and practice.

ps. I have no problem equalizing using the normal Valsalva method when scuba diving.

Perhaps we can open a new category for freedivers in the General Category. Beside the usual discussion, I think it helps to promote the sport. Why do you guys reckon?

frenzal is all about controlling your glottis which cuts air from your lung, and put your Soft palate in Neutral position(the position which you can blow air from both your nose and mouth), that keeps your nose and mouth connected. yes, it needs more practice and you will be able to do that.

Used to dive weekly with the Perth Freediving/Spearos community. Usual to Beatty Park Swimming Pool Monday sessions. Now that I am back, I've been itching to get back into the water but work shifts so need a flexible schedule.

I only know valsalva and even doing open ocean dives, I have been thinking of finding a local accessible spot to make depth dives again. Recce'd out Tampines Quarry awhile ago but afraid to make the plunge alone. Deepest reported depth is 10m up to 20m from the shoreline. Have my own gear and surface bullet buoy. It's not pretty but worth the check out. Couple of guys here snorkelled and dived there last year.

Certainly don't trust myself with a speargun. God knows how much damage I can do to myself let alone fishes.
