Chances of being attached by Pirates ?

Hi
What are the chances of pirates attacking dive ships, esp in Indonesian waters ?
Planning to go on liveaboards and the recent news of pirate attack off Tioman is giving some jitters.

unless the dive boat you are boarding is super luxurous and cost hundreds of mils, or there are high cost cargo in the dive boat, it is not likely that pirates will target dive vessels. Pirates are smart too, and target vessels that can fetch them $$$.

But then again i could be wrong, sometimes pirates are crazy

Its the same chance of being attacked by Shark while diving, very slim. IMO smart pirate will not strike a dive boat because there is not much to gain. I mean how much money you have with you when you go on your dive trip? $100 or $200 at most? But then again, I might be wrong.

BTW, its attached or attacked?

In most cases, pirates target only vessel of value.  Value, meaning cargo or commercially valuable vessel such as tugs, barges etc. At times they keep crew and vessel for ransom.  Rarely do they target dive boats or other 'white boats'. Dun worry too much.. just enjoy your trip.

u can upgrade your diveknife at adex or perhaps get a new harpoon. haha. just jk

I though the pirates went after large cargo vessels because they know the insurrance will gladley pay a couple million for a vessel and cargo thats worth alot more.

all these boat traffic need a metal beanie to wear or better yet motorbike helmet to dive!
